Spring yard waste collection in West Hartford

SPRING YARD WASTE COLLECTION
April 30-May 11, 2007

The annual town-wide spring yard waste collection program is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 30th and continue for two weeks through Friday, May 11th, weather permitting. Public Works crews will begin in the Monday refuse collection area on Monday and proceed to the Tuesday refuse collection area on Tuesday until completing the Friday refuse collection area on Friday each week. Biodegradable 30-gallon paper bags of spring yard waste should be placed separately from your weekly trash. Please do not place the paper bags out before the collection.

Crews will only collect spring yard waste in biodegradable 30-gallon paper bags. Residents should have their bags at the curb by 6:00 AM on their refuse collection day. Acceptable items include: leaves, thatch, twigs, pine cones, pine needles, acorns and remains of last year’s annuals and perennials. Unacceptable items include: branches, soil, trash, grass clippings, rocks, bulky items or metal items. Yard waste placed in plastic bags, trash cans, cardboard boxes or other containers will not be collected.

Branches can be bundled and tied into 4-foot lengths and placed out with your trash on your refuse collection day. Grass clippings, branches over 4″ in diameter, logs and concrete can be brought to the Recycling Center on Brixton Street for disposal. There is a minimum charge of $7.00 to dispose of grass clippings.
