Hooked on “Jericho”

I can’t really explain why I like this show. Its premise is even more ridiculous than the plots on “24” and the acting is occasionally over the top.

But it’s somehow interesting.

For those who haven’t seen it, the story takes place mostly in the fictional town of Jericho, Kansas, a little prairie town of old-fashioned Americanism.

One day, for no obvious reasons, nuclear blasts take out Denver in the distance as well as many other major American cities. Who did it? We don’t know. It’s some kind of mysterious power play rather than Osama & Co. or the Red Chinese.

But the devastation is terrible and millions are dead. Jericho is largely cut off, except when it’s convenient to have outsiders show up or insiders venture out. They don’t go that far because it’s pretty ugly out in the country, with rogue security agents, vicious gangs and the like.

But Jericho is holding its own, usually making sure people get food, water and heat.

What I’ve learned from the show is that if somebody blows up most of the cities in America and I’m still standing, I should make sure I have lots of blankets, plenty of water and some bags of salt around to eat. I guess that’s worth something.

Meanwhile, I’m keen to find out who did it and why. I’m sure that’ll be a long time coming.
