West Hartford GOP sure looks DEAD

In trying to learn more about the inscrutable politics of West Hartford, I looked for each party’s website. I figured in a town where nearly everyone is online, they’d each have a decent presence on the internet. Shows what I know.

Here’s what the Republicans have, as best I can tell: Last updated in 2003.

The Democrats appear to have even less, really, but at least it’s up to date: West Hartford Democratic Town Committee list.

Both parties should cringe at their online efforts in this town. We’re not podunkville with a dial-up internet line at the library. We’re a place where almost everybody has high-speed web access and uses it for a lot more than just downloading porn.

C’mon, party leaders, Al Gore didn’t invent the internet just so bloggers could babble. There are voters here on the web. You need to reach them.

  1. Hey, Very good intentions, but why doesn’t someone write an article on how to Integrate the Political Party’s and the School Boards in West Hartford?
Looking at the Dems list of district players and knowing many of the Republican Players first hand(no list on line), I think minority representation is close to zilch in both Party’s.
I call on both Party’s to step up to the plate and try recruiting more minorities from those school districts which are racially out of balance as well as from the whole town for that matter.
A good old fashion door to door, bi-partisan recruitment campaign and an Online survey can do the trick coupled with your suggestion on using the Internet and it’s popularity.

This is an excellent issue and perfect time for concensus. Leadership starts at the top.

Minority Candidates then can possibly be found for each Party from the pool of new minority district members to address these and other racial issue’s in Town.

As the Town of West Hartrford moves from the 33-34% Minority Student Population today towards a 50% Minority Student Population in the coming 2-3 years , I believe this Issue will resolve itself and Political Party Integration will occur.

  2. As long as the political parties are looking at change, they might remember that women make up more than half the population of the town. On the DTC list, there appear to be at least twice as many men as women. So much for social justice!

  3. I’d be willing to help the parties create more maintainable web sites, assuming there’s interest in having someone keep it up to date. We could use wordpress just like this blog or my own. Makes it easy, and keeps it easy to keep fresh. Even better, I live in W. Hartford. Any ideas on who is responsible for their web presence?
