Lamont didn’t exactly impress me

Turning the sound off on the tv, it looked like Lamont was some timid little kid, so nerdy that you almost felt sorry for him — especially since Lieberman looked mad the whole time, like a bully threatening a weakling.

But I’d take the nerd over the bully any day, particularly when Lieberman’s the old veteran who ought to have this game pretty well down pat by now. Lamont is a kid, by comparison, so it’s easier to forgive that.

I couldn’t help thinking back to that awful Lieberman-Cheney debate in 2000 where old Joe looked happy as could be to chitchat about policy with Cheney. They were like chums rather than opponents. But switch Cheney for Lamont and suddenly Lieberman’s a pit bull. Go figure.
